Give on Nov. 28 and help us meet our $60,000 challenge match by the end of the year

After Diana recovered from breast cancer, she was left with fibromyalgia, diabetes, anxiety, depression and a host of other medical issues. No longer able to keep her job and with a five-year-old daughter to care for, she had no income beyond child support. The two moved into Diana’s adult son’s home. Unfortunately, that situation became abusive and Diana was beaten. Her son and his fiance’ smeared their baby’s dirty diapers on Diana’s clothes, sliced through her mattresses, and destroyed the little girl’s toys.

Diana and her daughter became homeless on Christmas Eve, 2022.

They are just two of the 19,000 people who were homeless in Massachusetts last year, with nearly 60 percent of them in families with children. Our state also has the dubious distinction of having the largest increase of families with children experiencing homelessness in the nation in 2022 than compared to 2020. We know the actual number is higher as many families are unreported due to shame and fear that their children will be taken from them.

North Star exists to help Diana and the thousands of families like hers. We provide emergency housing, meals and comprehensive case management services that addresses each family’s individual barriers to stability and guides them to self-sufficiency in permanent homes.

North Star is the only shelter for families in our region. We rely entirely on the good graces of private donations, corporate donations and grants to provide these vital services.

We have an offer of matching funds for up to $60,000 to raise by the end of the year. All gifts are tax-deductible. Can you help us double the dollars?
